DESCRIPTION
The P-CON 12 is normally used to connect directly to the PC's, or the terminals, standard RS-232 serial port. It converts the asynchronous RS-232 or TDI input signals into 12 isolated and separately regenerated Polled RS-232 output signals.

No terminal converters or boosters are required as long as the terminals are connected within a valid RS-232 cable range; normally 100-150 feet. When further distance connections are required, a small booster at the terminal may be used to drive the signal back to the P-CON (See AB-32).

The P-CON 12 incorporates CPS's Super Serial Drivers (SSD) that supports three wire RS-232 cable connections (TX-RX-Signal Ground) at distances of up to 2000'. A fourth conductor is also available that can be connected to the anti-streaming feature of the RS-232 module.

Connectors
The P-CON 12 has 12 RJ-11 or RJ-45 modular connectors on the front panel and a DB-25 male input connector with switch selections for either TDI or RS-232, DCE or DTE connections to the host.

Diagnostics
The P-CON 12 has five LEDs and an audible alarm that can be located up to 50' from the unit. Two of the LEDs monitor POWER as well as the HOST DATA Receive data signal. A single LED is also associated with each row of RJ-xx ports (4 ports) to monitor terminal activity. A solid LED accompanied by an audible alarm indicates a streaming terminal, short, or cross cable within the row.

Backup
P-CONs can also be used for backup to a LAN connected network. In this event, the operator can simply hot key back to COM 1 and use TDI or RS-232 as an alternate Poll/Select path to the host.

NOTE: Use the P-CON on Point-to-Point Asynchronous polled networks only. Operation on Synchronous or Multi-Point async networks, may require an intelligent converter such as an M-SAT or M-BAT between the modem and the P-CON.

The P-CON 12 represents a very economical method of connecting polled PCs to the host without requiring a converter or internal board for each PC. Only those that are beyond the RS-232 distance limit may require the AB-32.
